Brazil: Train derails in Rio’s Central do Brasil station

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A train of the Santa Cruz branch derailed around 01:41 PM on Tuesday, March 15, when arriving at the Central do Brasil station in downtown Rio. According to Supervia, no one was injured. The accident scared passengers and workers passing by the site.

Also, according to the concessionaire of rail transport, the accident caused no damage to passengers. Supervia informs that there is no irregularity in the branch interval.

In a statement, the Regulatory Agency of Granted Public Services of Waterway, Railway, Subway, and Highway Transportation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Agetransp) said it would investigate the reasons for the accident.

“Agetransp inspectors are checking the circumstances of the derailment of a train, when it accessed platform B of Central do Brasil station, at 01:41 PM this Tuesday, March 15. The agency monitors the possible impacts on the station operations.

Supervia also expressed itself about the accident this Tuesday afternoon.

“Supervia technicians are working on repairs to release the line and normalize the platform of the Santa Cruz branch as soon as possible. Customers are being warned about the change through Central do Brasil’s audio system. There is no irregularity in the branch interval, and there were no injuries”.
