Brazil has Highest Percentage of Optimists Among Twenty-three Countries

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has the highest percentage of optimists in the world, according to a research commissioned by Expo Dubai 2020 and released this week.

According to the survey, 76 percent of Brazilians believe themselves optimists, a number considerably higher than the global average, which stood at 56 percent.

Over 20 thousand people in 23 countries were interviewed, divided by geographic region, gender, occupation, marital status, and income level.

In addition to Brazil, the survey includes Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Russia, South Africa, United States, United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

Despite the broad diversity of the surveyed countries, the results show that most of the world is strongly aligned when it comes to the main problems that the planet’s future faces.

When asked about the environment, 65 percent of respondents were confident about Humankind’s ability to fight climate change. Another 69 percent said they would like to see plastic-free oceans while 67 percent mentioned universal transport with clean energy and 71 percent said they would like to see self-powered transport in the future.

Also at the global level, the results show that nine out of ten respondents believe that individuals and communities can build the future through increased knowledge sharing, communication, and cooperation.

Knowledge sharing, learning and greater access to education also stood out as prevalent issues in all regions: the Middle East (55 percent), Western and Eastern Europe (61 percent), Asia (61 percent), North America (63 percent), South America (68 percent) and Africa (72 percent).

Overall, South America (74 percent) is the most optimistic region, followed by Africa (64 percent), the Middle East (60 percent), Asia (57 percent), North America (50 percent) and Western and Eastern Europe (50 percent).

The survey found that two-thirds of Brazilians are optimistic about their own future in terms of opportunities, with 89 percent of respondents saying that the key to a better future lies in knowledge sharing and communication between individuals and communities.

Education is seen as an important tool for the future of Brazilians, with 68 percent of respondents mentioning that collecting knowledge, learning and access to education are crucial to unlocking opportunities over the next 30 years.

Brazilians also believe that tolerance and inclusion (60 percent), cross-border cooperation (57 percent) and a common ground to exchange ideas (56 percent) are important for the future.

Expo Dubai 2020

Under the title “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, Expo Dubai 2020 is expected to welcome more than 25 million people from all continents over a six-month period. Approximately 60 daily events are planned throughout 173 days, including musical, technology and cultural performances. At least 200 points of sale will feature chefs and cuisine from all over the world.

Exhibitions and representations from 192 countries are expected, in addition to multilateral organizations, companies, and educational institutions.

The World Expo has been held since 1851 and brings together governments, international organizations and companies in order to find solutions to universal challenges and foster their achievements, products, ideas, innovations, tourism, in addition to national brands, trade, and investment.

Expo Dubai 2020 will be the 168th edition in its history.
