Brazil, Chile, and Argentina lead as Paraguay’s main export destinations
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The first month of the year, between reductions and increases, left a boost in terms of shipments made by Paraguay. Mercosur countries and other countries of the region occupy the first places in terms of the destinations of the products exported by Paraguay.
The Paraguayan Industrial Union (UIP) reported in its report prepared by the Strategic Intelligence Unit carried out within the framework of the Mipyme Compite program, with support from the European Union, that shipments of manufactured goods of industrial origin in January 2022 exceeded US$98 million, while maquila specifically reached US$20 million.
As for exports of agricultural products, this sector experienced an increase of 12%, helped by the high demand for beef worldwide, which is facing an upward trend in its price. Likewise, despite the critical situation regarding the drought, the export of grains remained stable in terms of shipments.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, 60% of shipments were destined for Mercosur. Agricultural production determines these figures because the countries of the region, which have access to the large markets, acquire Paraguayan products to meet their demand.
In this sense, the Paraguayan Industrial Union (UIP) outlined the main destinations of Paraguayan production in the region, leaving Brazil in the first place. Although the neighboring country resulted in shipments valued at US$258 million, it faced a reduction of 2% year-on-year in terms of exports in the same month of the previous year.
On this scale, Chile comes second as a point for the shipment of Paraguayan production, with US$51 million of the exported products. In the case of this country, the inter-annual reduction reached 40%.
The third place is occupied by Argentina, which shipped US$44 million, showing an increase of more than 21% compared to everything shipped last year in the same period.
