In the first half of 2024, Brazil emerged as Chile’s third largest export market, overtaking Japan.
This shift underscores Brazil’s growing significance in Chile’s global trade strategy, especially in the non-copper and non-lithium sectors.
During this period, exports to Brazil reached $1.429 billion, marking a growth of 9.3% compared to the same period in 2023 and accounting for 6.34% of Chile’s total exports.
The standout category was fresh fruits, with a significant increase of 63.6% from the previous year. This growth indicates Brazil’s robust demand for Chile’s diverse agricultural products.
Hugo Corales, ProChile’s commercial director in Brazil, emphasized the strategic importance of Chile’s role as a dependable food supplier, bolstered by top exports like salmon and wine.
Further detailing the booming trade, ProChile’s report highlighted exceptional growth in specific commodities.
Fresh apples reached $51 million, up by 127.3%, while fresh plums and onions saw increases of 42% and 999.2%, respectively.
To strengthen these trade ties, ProChile will host Chile Week Brasil 2024 from September 30 to October 4.
This major event, spanning Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Belo Horizonte, will focus on expanding business opportunities in the food, mining, and tourism sectors.
With over 213 million people, Brazil remains a key market for Chile within Latin America, leading in imports of several Chilean products like wine, salmon, and various fruits.
It is also the largest destination for Chilean foreign investments, with $35.235 billion in 2023.
This evolving trade relationship showcases Brazil’s crucial role in Latin American trade. It also highlights Chile’s strategic efforts to diversify and strengthen its global trade connections.
