Bitcoin Stalls Near 118K as Investors Shift Focus to Ethereum and Altcoins

Bitcoin’s momentum slowed over the past 4 hours, dipping slightly by 0.74% to around 117,871, according to latest market data from Bitget.

Investor sentiment shifted toward Ethereum, reflected by significant inflows totaling around $96 million into Ethereum-focused ETFs. This contrasts sharply with Bitcoin ETFs, which saw approximately $31 million withdrawn during the same period.

Ethereum, however, wasn’t immune to overall market pressures, dropping 3.33% to 3,591.67. Despite this, market behavior suggests a clear institutional preference for Ethereum’s broader utility, particularly its staking capabilities.

Analysts point to Ethereum‘s increasing role in decentralized finance as a reason behind the institutional rotation away from Bitcoin. Altcoins witnessed volatility and significant downward adjustments, driven by high leverage liquidations.

XRP dropped dramatically by 11.11%, currently trading at 3.1099, as futures liquidations exceeded $2 million. Similar heavy losses were experienced by Dogecoin, falling 11.02% to 0.2360, and Solana, declining 7.81% to 185.62.

Litecoin faced milder pressure but still dropped 6.65%, hovering near 110.95. Technical indicators reveal Bitcoin is consolidating. On the daily chart, Bitcoin maintains its position above the 200-day moving average, confirming a longer-term bullish trend.

However, narrowing Bollinger Bands suggest low volatility, indicating the possibility of a significant price movement soon. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) around $0 reveals mild bullish sentiment, though caution remains as momentum indicators like MACD exhibit weakening strength.

The four-hour chart paints a clearer short-term bearish scenario. Bitcoin’s MACD has turned downward, signaling potential short-term selling pressure. RSI dropped below 50, indicating sellers currently control the market.

Immediate support is found near the $16,500 price level, with resistance at approximately 120,000, suggesting Bitcoin may remain range-bound in the short term.

The Global Liquidity Index (NDQ), tracked as a reliable indicator, has flattened, pointing to cautious institutional investment behavior. Market liquidity remains stable yet cautious, potentially impacting future Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF flows.
