Aura Minerals Expands Gold Portfolio with Strategic Bluestone Acquisition
Aura Minerals, a Canadian mining giant, has made a bold move in the gold industry. The company announced its acquisition of Bluestone Resources, marking a significant step in its growth strategy.
This deal brings two valuable assets into Aura’s portfolio: the Cerro Blanco gold project and the Mita Geothermal project. The acquisition values Bluestone at 0.50 Canadian dollars per share.
This price represents a 51% premium over Bluestone’s last closing price. Based on the total outstanding shares, the deal is worth about 76 million Canadian dollars (R$ 313.1 million or $55.9 million).
Aura’s CEO, Rodrigo Barbosa, had hinted at potential acquisitions earlier this year. He expressed interest in exploring new gold and copper opportunities to boost shareholder value.
This purchase aligns perfectly with that vision, adding a potentially significant asset to Aura’s operations. The timing of this acquisition couldn’t be better for Aura Minerals. Gold prices are hitting record highs, and the company is launching new production projects.
Aura’s Expansion through Strategic Acquisition
Aura’s Brazilian Depositary Receipts (BDRs) have more than doubled in value this year, showing a 104.5% increase since January.
Cerro Blanco, located in Jutiapa, Guatemala, is a high-grade gold deposit. The Mita project is an advanced renewable energy venture, approved to produce up to 50 megawatts of power.
These assets complement Aura’s existing operations in Honduras, Mexico, and Brazil. Peter Hemstead, Bluestone’s CEO, praised Aura‘s track record in developing greenfield projects.
He believes Aura has the financial strength to unlock Cerro Blanco’s full potential. Aura’s nearby operation, just 230 kilometers from Cerro Blanco, could aid in the project’s development.
The deal offers Bluestone shareholders three payment options. They can receive cash, Aura shares, or a combination of both. There’s also potential for additional payments if Cerro Blanco meets certain production milestones.
In addition, the total enterprise value could reach $74.3 million, including projected net debt. Both companies’ boards have approved the deal.
However, it still needs shareholder approval and regulatory clearance. This acquisition represents a significant step for Aura Minerals in expanding its gold production and diversifying its portfolio.
