Two people were arrested after a conflict involving protesters and riot police from the Military Police (PM) of Paraná during an attempt to block access to the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (Repar), in Araucária, Metropolitan Region of Curitiba, the capital of the Paraná state.

This Monday (9), the government of Paraná informed that, in addition to the action that contained the protests at Repar, in respect of the determination of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), it is preparing actions to demobilize the acts in front of the military barracks, which group people against the election of President Lula da Silva (PT) and in favor of federal intervention by the armed forces.

The possibility of demonstrations at Repar and other refineries had been raised by the Single Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) on Sunday. The entity claims to have alerted government and Petrobras authorities of the risks. Protesters would be following calls made by social networks with the aim of preventing the supply of fuel in the country.

On Sunday night, while protesters mobilized in front of the Paraná refinery, earth was dumped in an attempt to prevent access to the entrance. The Military Police (PM) had to use stun bombs to disperse the demonstrators.

The president of the PT, Gleisi Hoffmann, demanded on social networks, on Sunday, the PM’s action in Repar. By posting a video of the protesters, she called the attention of the governor of Paraná, Ratinho Junior, to take measures against the action: “Hello, Ratinho Jr., the people need fuel, not vandalism and delinquency”, she wrote.

This Monday morning, the government of Paraná reported that the attempt to block access to Repar was demobilized after the PM’s Shock Battalion acted.

In a note, it confirmed that two people were arrested at the scene and that leaders of the movement are being identified and their names forwarded to the Judiciary.

It also mentioned that he has been acting, through the Secretariat of Public Security, to prevent new roadblocks and that he is in dialogue with the federal forces.

“The State of Paraná has also made itself available to the Ministry of Justice to assist in whatever is necessary for the resumption of order and peace in the federal capital”, it mentioned, also confirming that the security forces are preparing actions to demobilize the acts in front of the barracks, in respect of the decision of the STF.

PM SAYS HE IS IN DIALOGUE WITH PROTESTERS TO START DEMOBILIZATION

The State Security Secretariat stated that it is talking to the protesters in front of the military barracks in Curitiba to start the demobilization of the groups: “Mediation has begun, asking people to vacate these roads so that the order can be carried out.

The Military and Civil Police are carrying out a risk assessment so that we have the least possibility of confrontation. We don’t want that and, if they don’t leave, we’ll have to arrest them. The PM is carrying out an assessment and by lunchtime we will have a diagnosis of the state of Paraná. As of the afternoon, we intend to start clearing the obstruction”, said Colonel Hudson Leôncio Teixeira, secretary of Public Security of Paraná, in the morning.
