Shortly after, President Lula da Silva decreed federal intervention in Brazil’s Federal District because of the invasion of the National Congress in Brasilia the government’s Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Flavio Dino, made a harsh statement on Sunday night.

About 300 people were arrested, and 40 buses that took protesters to Brasilia were detained and their financiers identified.

“The arrests ‘in flagrante’ continue; the ‘flagrante’ occurs during the commission of the crime or soon after.”

“The people being followed are still in the light of the penal code of flagrancy; we still don’t have a final balance, and arrests will continue to be made in the coming hours.”

“We have approximately 40 buses seized, all the buses and the financiers have already been identified, so we will have new requests for preventive detention, in phase with the gravity of what was done,” he commented.

The Civil Police said that they will continue to make arrests and that the demonstrators are being sent to the headquarters building of the PC to be identified and heard in the inquiry “that investigates the criminal acts” that occurred on the Ministries Esplanade.

About the possible culprits for the invasion, Dino cited that the governor of the DF, Ibaneis Rocha, will correctly ascertain responsibilities.

“In the days that preceded these unprecedented events, there was a preparation, meetings in which the government stated that its preparation was adequate.”

“Governor Ibaneis, for sure, by making a public apology, is recognizing that something went wrong in this planning, and I believe that he will investigate those who did not fulfill their duties,” he said.

Flávio Dino reinforced that what occurred in the Praça dos Três Poderes was terrorism.

“We regret that the inheritance of the Brazilian people has been squandered in a vile way. This is terrorism, it is coups, and we know that the vast majority of Brazilians do not want the implementation of this kind of darkness in Brazil.”

“The actions have no time to end. We appeal to the citizens in their states with extremist positions to have common sense because we will not accept the path of criminality. Criminals are treated as criminals,” he explained.

“The minister also informed that he is working alongside the federal intervenor, Ricardo Garcia Cappelli, to take measures and decisions. The next step, said Dino, is to discover all the financiers of antidemocratic acts.
