Argentina will start the construction of its new multipurpose vessel in August

Argentina’s Ministry of Defense will start constructing the new multipurpose landing ship next August.

The news comes from the agreement signed between Minister Jorge Taiana and the Province of Buenos Aires governor, Axel Kicillof, by which the Tandanor and Río Santiago shipyards will build several naval means for the Argentine Navy to recover capabilities.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the future vessel will support and assist the population in emergencies or natural disasters.

According to data provided last year by the Ministry of Defense, the model that best fits the description of the future vessel is the LST 100 (Landing Ship Transport) from Damen.

The Dutch company assures that its design provides access and support to small and shallow ports, providing amphibious capability.

In turn, it can be deployed quickly on a beach and operate as a mother ship for insertions; it is also helpful in humanitarian aid and disaster relief situations.

The construction of the vessel of 100 meters in length, 16 meters in beam, and 7.75 meters in depth, capable of reaching a speed of 16 knots and with an autonomy of 4,000 nautical miles or 15 days of operation, would be carried out by the Tandanor and Rio Santiago shipyards and would require about five years of work.
