Argentina reports 11,183 new cases of Covid-19 and 274 deaths

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Argentine Ministry of Health reported 11,183 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total number of positives to 4,947,030. At the same time, deaths rose to 106,045 after 274 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

The figures reveal an increase of almost double the number of positives recorded this Sunday when 6,083 cases were reported, although, on weekends, the number of reported infections is usually lower.

Argentina registered a daily record number of cases on May 27, when 41,080 cases were reported, while the highest number of deaths in a single day was confirmed on June 21, with 792 deaths on that day.

In the province of Buenos Aires, 3,087 cases were reported on Monday, while in the central province of Cordoba, 1,276 positive cases were recorded, in the province of Santa Fe (center), 923 cases were reported, and in the capital of Argentina, 682 positive cases were reported.

According to the official report, there are 4.59 million patients who have already been discharged, while the number of people with a confirmed diagnosis of covid-19 who remain in intensive care units on Monday was 3,913, down from 7,969 on June 14.

The occupancy rate of intensive care beds for all pathologies is 53.7% at the national level and 52.2% if only Buenos Aires and its periphery are considered.

So far, 19.5 million tests for the virus have been carried out in the South American country, of which 68,502 were performed this Monday.

Argentina experienced in April and May a dizzying rise in covid-19 cases, with a high level of bed occupancy in intensive care units. Still, the upward curve of positives began to ease in June, following new sanitary restrictions.

Last week, the first infections of the Delta variant were reported, with no link to travelers from other countries.

As the country seeks to leave behind the second wave of covid-19, Argentina, with some 45 million inhabitants, continues its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus, initiated at the end of December 2020.

According to official data released on Monday, 32.3 million doses have been applied so far.

25.1 million people received the first dose of the vaccine, while 7.1 million people have already been inoculated with the second dose.
