Brazil records 389 Covid deaths, lowest daily figure since January (August 2)
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil on Monday recorded 389 new deaths as a result of Covid-19, bringing the total number of fatalities from the disease in the country to 557,223, the Health Ministry said.
There were also 15,143 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 19,953,501, the ministry added.
The pandemic numbers in Brazil are usually below average on Mondays due to the damming up of tests over the weekends.
Still, Monday’s figures represent the lowest daily number of deaths recorded in the country since January 3, when 293 deaths were reported, and the lowest number of cases in a single day since November 16 last year, when the ministry reported 13,371 cases.
The federal government still reports 18,687,203 people recovered from Covid-19 and 709,075 patients in follow-up.
According to Statista, the leading German company specializing in market and consumer data, Brazil ranks sixth in Latin America for deaths per million in the last seven days. It is better positioned than Paraguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Cuba, and Argentina. Worldwide, it ranks 16th.
The country has seen a considerable reduction in pandemic numbers in recent weeks.
