Venezuelan forces intercept and destroy plane originating from Mexico for violating airspace
The Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) of Venezuela intercepted and disabled an aircraft that had violated Venezuelan airspace in Falcón state.
Domingo Hernández Lárez, the head of the Strategic Operational Command (Ceofanb), provided this information.
On July 10, at 04:00 hours, the FANB detected an aircraft on radar that was in clear violation of Venezuelan airspace.
The aircraft from Mexico entered the national territory over the Operational Zone of Integral Defense Falcon.
The Defense Plan was immediately activated, leading to the interception and disablement of the aircraft in the San Felix sector of Mauroa municipality in Falcon state, as stated by Hernández Lárez on Twitter.
The intercepted aircraft was found to be traveling without proper means of communication and identification codes.
Hernández Lárez also revealed that in the past 30 days, three other aircraft from Mexico, suspected of being involved in drug trafficking, were disabled.
The purpose of these aircraft is believed to be establishing contact with Tancol (Colombian Armed Terrorist Drug Traffickers) groups within Venezuela.
Their goal is to transport illicit drugs from illegal improvised clandestine airstrips in Falcón, Zulia, and Apure states.
These areas are difficult to access and have low population densities, making them attractive for drug trafficking operations.
Hernández Lárez reported that the FANB has disabled a total of 36 invading airplanes this year alone, and since 2012, they have intercepted and destroyed a total of 359 aircraft that violated Venezuelan airspace.
