President Lula’s statements about the war between Russia and Ukraine threaten to compromise the Ukrainian state-owned Antonov project to start aircraft production in Brazil.

The negotiations for the beginning of the project foresee an investment of US$50 billion and the generation of 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Representatives from the company showed interest in installing the airplane-producing factory on Brazilian soil for considering the country neutral.

But the negotiations were suspended after statements by Lula, considered disastrous by international diplomacy.

Lula said that the “decision for war was made by both countries,” a statement that was repudiated by the international community.

The Ukrainian state-owned company planned to build a factory in the states of Paraná and São Paulo.

The project included the construction of a 70,000-square-meter industrial plant, technology transfer, and a test track of at least 2,400 x 50 meters in an estimated timeline of five years.
