The Ecuadorian Police seizes 2.3 tonnes of cocaine

The National Police of Ecuador has seized 2.3 tonnes of drugs in the ‘Christmas’ operation, in the Port of Guayaquil, in the west of the country, after finding 2,345 packages of cocaine hydrochloride in a container that was destined for France.

The packages were hidden in a calcium silicate warehouse and were found thanks to the help of a drug dog. The drug was hidden in 102 packages containing bricks, as detailed by the Ecuadorian Police in a statement, detailing that this has been one of the largest shipments they have captured during 2022.

The case, which is in a previous investigation, includes the company and the people who transported the shipment, reported ‘El Telégrafo’.

The president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, has highlighted the operation of the country’s Police, which has more than 26 million doses of cocaine from international markets, with an approximate value of US$43 million.

“The efficient work of the Police has allowed, during a pre-shipment inspection, the departure of more than two tons of cocaine destined for France to be frustrated. Our work to control, prevent and act against any threat is permanent,” the president said in a letter.

During 2022, the Ecuadorian authorities have seized more than 195 tonnes of drugs, which were mainly going to the United States and Europe, according to the aforementioned newspaper.
