Petition Demanding Netflix Remove “Gay Jesus” Film Gets 180,000 Signatures

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The fact that the group “Porta dos Fundos” (a comedy sketch group) generates controversy and revolt among Christians with its satires involving Christianity is nothing new.

However, at the end of this year (2019), the Netflix streaming film and series platform is also being criticized for hosting the most recent film by the humor production company.

In the film synopsis “Christmas Special – Porta dos Fundos: The First Temptation of Christ”, a brief text states: “Jesus is turning 30 and brings a surprise guest to meet the family. A Christmas special so wrong that it could only be from the Porta dos Fundos”.

The “friend” (Fábio Porchat) that Jesus’ character (Gregório Duvivier) brings to spend a few days in his house could also be his “boyfriend”, according to the story. But throughout the plot, the partner turns out to be the devil.

An online petition (Change.org) that requires Netflix to remove the series from its collection has already obtained more than 180,000 signatures in only five days after posting. The goal is to reach 200,000.

The petition states: “For barring the Netflix Christmas film by Porta dos Fundos, for seriously offending Christians”.

Each user who has signed the petition has left a comment, expressing their repudiation of the Porta dos Fundos for their mockery of Christianity and also of Netflix for promoting the film.

Criticism by critic

In a text published on Facebook, film critic Carlos Vereza harshly criticized Porta dos Fundos for launching the new film, with a theme depicting Jesus as a homosexual.

“Porta dos Fundos. You are regrettable as living beings. Although Jesus does not need a defense, particularly mine, you think you can mock not only the Master, which is an easy pardon, but also the largest Catholic country on the planet and those who believe in a Being that has changed history, before and after Him,” wrote the actor.

“You are unscathed, detached, sub-imitation of trash-refuse-porn films, presumed post-modern in a country in eternal underdevelopment,” he added. “You are presumptuous idiots, messengers of the New World Order, whose agenda since the Frankfurt School has been the deconstruction of family and religion”.

The actor also accused the producer of engaging in “Lula Livre” (“Free Lula”) militancy and other left-wing “causes”, such as the legalization of drugs and the sexual revolution.

“Your subtext, which I am not going to name, is the Free Lula, it is the return of free joints, of free trafficking in universities, of free sexual debauchery, the lack of love, which for you, is frowned upon, something of the right-wing.”

“You, the accomplices of the greatest thief in the poor history of this country, a mass murderer who killed thousands of needy people because of the precariousness of health, for the ideological manipulation of fragile students,” he said.

“You can’t even be original. The same as always. Obsessed with the gay agenda. Let it go, there is lipstick for all tastes. Free the Linda Lovelace that lives in you”, he concluded, ironizing.
