Since the primaries, the parallel dollar in Argentina has risen by 175 pesos, or 29%
Argentina’s parallel dollar rate saw a significant 6.84% rise yesterday, increasing by 50 pesos and settling at 780 pesos per unit by the close of the trading day at major currency exchanges.
This marks a new all-time high for the currency.
The surge in the “blue dollar” rate comes on the heels of the recent Primary, Open, Simultaneous, and Mandatory (PASO) elections.
Liberal presidential candidate Javier Milei from the “La Libertad Avanza” party emerged victorious in the polls.
In contrast, the official exchange rate remained stable. The “wholesale dollar”, used for external trade and financial operations, stayed at 350 pesos per unit.
Meanwhile, the “retail dollar” available to the public was priced at 366.89 pesos.

This consistency in the wholesale dollar aligns with the Central Bank of Argentina’s decision to devalue the local peso currency by a one-time 21.6% until the upcoming October.
The discrepancy between the official market rate and the blue market dollar ranged between 112% and 123% today.
Additionally, the “financial dollars”, derived from stock market operations, continued their upward trajectory.
The “MEP dollar” (Electronic Payment Market) closed at 651.41 pesos, while the “Cash with Settlement” ended at 732.25 pesos per unit.
Since the PASO, the parallel dollar in Argentina has risen by 175 pesos or 29%.
Analysts believe this uptick may be attributed to unpredictability surrounding the liberal candidate and political uncertainty ahead of the general elections scheduled for October 22.
