Petrobras Sets New Production Record with 3.7% Boost in 2023

In the latest development, Petrobras saw its oil and natural gas output grow by 3.7% in 2023, reaching a new high.

The firm pumped out 2.78 million barrels of oil equivalent daily, edging past its 2022 high of 2.68 million.

Its total production, counting areas where it has shares, hit a peak at 4.04 million barrels daily in 2023.

The company shared these figures on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in its end-of-year report.

Jean Paul Prates, the firm’s leader, said the last quarter of 2023 capped off a year of hard work and big wins, and the year brought records in drilling and refining.

A 10.5% rise in pre-salt drilling drove this upswing, while post-salt fell by 12%.

The start of FPSOs Almirante Barroso, Anna Nery, and Anita Garibaldi, alongside high output from P-71 and FPSO Guanabara, played key roles.

New wells in the Campos and Santos areas did, too.

In refining and sales, the plants ran at 92% capacity in 2023, up 4% from before. This pushed derivative production to 1.77 million barrels daily, a 2% increase.

The firm noted this growth made better use of local oil, met domestic needs with local products, and cut down on imports.
