Paraguay registered trade deficit in September

Paraguay’s trade balance in September 2022 registered a deficit of US$771.6 million, informed the Central Bank today.

According to the issuing entity, total exports in the ninth month of the year reached a value of US$10.6 billion, 1.2% lower than the US$10.7 billion seen a year ago.

He added that foreign sales accounted for 73.1% of the total, reaching US$7.7 billion, 5.4 percentage points lower than the accumulated value as of September 2021.

Meanwhile, re-exports, with 22.3% of the total, registered a value of US$2.4 billion, an increase of 18.9% compared to the same period last year.

Other exports, with a 4.6 percent share, recorded a 10.6% decrease compared to the accumulated value as of September of the previous year, standing at US$488.2 million.

The reduction observed in registered exports is mainly explained by lower shipments of soy grains, electric energy, and rice, reported the Paraguayan Central Bank.

Meanwhile, total imports reached US$11.3 billion, 24.2 percentage points higher than in 2021.

Registered imports represented 96.1% of the total and obtained a value of US$10.9 billion, 25% higher than 12 months ago.

Meanwhile, other imports represented the remaining 3.9%, for a value of US$438.9 million, and in volume terms, a contraction of 8.4 percentage points was observed.
