For most of her career she kept a careful distance from her mother’s repertoire, working in samba and in newer material. The 2019 tour Elis in Concert, where she sang with archive footage, was the first deliberate approach.

Redescobrir belongs to that later phase. The title comes from a Gonzaguinha song, and the framing is rediscovery rather than tribute. What she is reopening is the wider Brazilian songbook, not only one singer’s part of it.

Why This Is a Good Entry Point for Newcomers

For a foreign resident who wants to understand Brazilian popular music beyond bossa nova, this kind of concert does more work than a festival. The repertoire is canonical, the arrangements are clear, and the songs are sung by someone the audience trusts with them.

Getting to Vivo Rio

Vivo Rio is in the Parque do Flamengo, the long strip of reclaimed land between the city centre and Botafogo. The closest metro station is Glória, about a fifteen-minute walk through the park, and Cinelândia is a similar distance in the other direction.

Walking through the park after dark is not the usual advice. Most concertgoers arrive by car, taxi or ride app, and the venue has parking. The drop-off is directly at the entrance.

A concert starting at 9 p.m. in this hall typically ends between 11 p.m. and midnight. The metro runs later on Saturdays, but the walk from Glória at that hour is the part worth avoiding.

The Museum of Modern Art next door and the Aterro itself are worth arriving early for. On a clear Saturday the view across the bay to Niterói from the park is one of the better free things in the city.

For anyone new to Rio, the park is also a useful orientation. It was laid out in the 1960s on land reclaimed from the bay. It is the reason the centre and the south zone connect as they do. The concert hall is a small part of a much larger public work.
