LATAM Airlines to offer free WhatsApp on flights in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – LATAM Airlines Brazil announced that its passengers would be able to send and receive text messages via WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and iMessage in-flight, completely free of charge as of this week.

Initially, the service will be available on 56 of the airline’s Airbus A320 family aircraft flying domestic flights within Brazil and on operations from Brazil to other destinations within South America. However, the airline intends to extend the service to other aircraft in its fleet.

The service is available for sending text messages from these applications, excluding the transfer of photos, videos, or other files. Passengers can choose other paid packages for browsing or streaming.

“It is our ongoing goal to provide the best experience for our customers. The messaging package complements the excellent free entertainment options available,” explained Paulo Miranda, vice president of customers at LATAM Airlines Group.

To access the service, customers must put their mobile device in airplane mode, connect it to the LATAM Play Wi-Fi network, enter latamplay.com and select the free messaging package.

Travelers will also have access to a complete catalog of premium content by accessing the LATAM Play platform, such as movies, documentaries, series, and music. In fact, in November, LATAM announced an agreement to offer HBO Max on the company’s flights.
