Tourism to Brazilian natural destinations hits record
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has registered a record number of visits to its natural destinations during 2021.
State Park Jalapão, in Tocantins State, received more than 55,000 visitors, which was the highest number recorded since 2014.
Another highly visited place in 2021 was Bonito, in Mato Grosso do Sul State. The city recorded more than 205,000 visitors and, in 2021, had its best year.

Gilson Machado Neto, Brazil’s Minister of Tourism, points out that the high demand for natural destinations is a global trend that Brazil must take advantage of, given its potential.
“We have a country with incomparable natural beauties and places where tourists can’t go wrong. And that is what we have been working on, allocating promotion and investment actions so that these numbers can increase and that, year after year, we can see these records in our natural units”, said the minister.
In 2021, the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism launched the promotional campaign Tourism in Nature, which sought to reposition the country in this segment.
Days ago, a new campaign was launched, focused now on actions already developed for the benefit of the tourism sector, aiming to promote a safer environment for the resumption of tourism activities in the country.
The Ministry is working on the concession of national parks, and the implementation of RedeTrilhas, a trails network, joint initiatives with the Ministry of the Environment, which will guarantee adequate infrastructure for tourist visits in a sustainable manner since the investments and actions from these measures will improve the conservation of the units in the country.
Natural tourism was responsible for motivating 18.6% of international tourists to travel in 2019, registering the highest rate in the last five years.
In the same year, around 1.5 million Brazilian tourists traveled within the country motivated by adventure and nature, representing 26% of leisure travel.
Among the most sought-after destinations for natural tourism are Foz do Iguaçu (Paraná State), Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro State), São Paulo (São Paulo State), Angra dos Reis (Rio de Janeiro State), and Florianópolis (Santa Catarina State).
