Invasão Baiana Music Festival to Take Over Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Festival Invasão Baiana, a four-night series of events in celebration of contemporary Bahian music, music from the Brazilian state of Bahia, begins today, Saturday, August 15th at Praça do Centro Cultural Correios.

The festival will take place on two consecutive weekends, on August 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd, and will feature live performances by BaianaSystem & Pepeu Gomes, DJ Mauro Telefunksoul, Marcia Castro, OQuadro, Tom Zé, DJ Lord Breu, Retrofoguetes and Vivendo do Ócio.

Presented by the Ministério da Cultura e Centro Cultural Correio with participation from Banco do Brasil Rio de Janeiro and curated by Pedro Seiler of the popular Rio-based crowfunding/kickstarter initiative Queremos! and Chico Dub of the Festival Novas Frequências, this will be the first edition of the Invasão Baiana in Rio de Janeiro. The festival has previously been held in the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) in São Paulo and Brasília.

Opening the festival on the 15th, the BaianaSystem and Pepeu Gomes will perform live and DJ Mauro Telefunksoul will spin. Then on Sunday, August 16th, O Quardo and Marcia Castro will perform live.

The following weekend, on Saturday, August 22nd, Tom Zé will perform live and DJ Lord Breu will spin. To close out the festival on Sunday, August 23rd, Retrofoguetes and Vivendo do Ócio will perform live.
