The Institute of Law and Religion fears “escalation of violence” in Brazil between right and left
The Brazilian Institute of Law and Religion (IBDR) released this Monday (9) a note of repudiation regretting the “acts of depredation” to the three powers, which took place this Sunday (8) in Brasília.
According to the institute, the protesters left “a scene of destruction and damage to the treasury, marking a sad day in Brazilian political history”.
“The misuse of fundamental rights by citizens who decided to invade public buildings and destroy them as a form of protest made the movement illegitimate in that place and time when they acted outside the limits of law and order, and should be prosecuted and punished, in the form of Brazilian criminal law”, explained the IBDR.

For the IBDR, the protest increased the “tension between supporters” of the left and right, “with the potential to generate future conflicts in an escalation of violence”.
The institute mentioned that religious leaders most identified with the right “are being unfairly, illegally and criminally attacked on social networks, as if they had some relationship with what happened”.
“If political pluralism, freedoms and the dignity of the human person are not ensured for all, the political option does not matter, our system of government will no longer be democratic. Monism in the public space is typical of dictatorships”, declared the institute.
