Brazil’s Paranaguá port anticipates a 40% advance in agricultural commodity exports in the 1st quarter

The operators of the terminals of the Port of Paranaguá expect to export 40% more bulk solid vegetables in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year.

This is due to shipments of products such as soybeans, soybean meal, corn, wheat, and sugar adding up to about 7 million tons, according to a statement from the port administrator yesterday (Jan. 9).

Soybeans alone are expected to ship nearly 3.4 million tons by Paranaguá in the quarter, against 3.3 million a year earlier, due to an anticipated increase in the harvest of the 2022/23 crop, said the Portos do Paraná.

For the other commodities, foreign sales of 1.68 million tons of corn; 1.208 million tons of soybean meal; 670,000 tons of sugar; and 46,500 tons of wheat are expected for the quarter.

In 2022, from January to March, 514,120 tons of corn were exported; 1.34 million tons of soybean meal; 424,238 tons of sugar; and 32,895 tons of wheat.

According to the administrator, the projections consider data from 12 private companies and the public silos (vertical and horizontal).

Bulk solids are shipped east and west of the harbor of the Port of Paranaguá by the terminals AGTL, Cargill, Centro Sul, Cimbessul, Coamo (I and II), Cotriguaçu, Interalli, Louis Dreyfus, Rocha, Pasa, Bunge, Cavalca and public silos (operated by AOCEP).
