According to a survey published today (13) by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras), the consumption of Brazilian families increased by 7.23% in August compared to the same month of 2021.
In the first eight months of the year, cumulatively, the high is 2.67% compared to the same period last year.
According to Marcio Milan, Vice President of Abras for Institutional and Administrative Affairs, last month’s growth was driven by the social benefits granted by the federal government in August.

In addition, he said, the drop in unemployment and inflation had a noticeable effect as energy and fuel prices were eased.
“We have been watching employability: Employment is up, and unemployment is down,” he said.
Based on the latest results, Abras revised the growth forecast for household consumption this year from 2.8% to 3% and 3.3%.
“The reflection of the aid that began in August, the decline in prices that became more pronounced in September, shows that our projection is on track to reach 3% or 3.3%,” Milan said.
INFLATION
The basket of 35 most consumed products in supermarkets registered a decrease of 1.71% in September compared to August, costing R$ 745.03.
However, compared to September 2021, when the product package cost R$675.73, the basket increased by 8.76%.
