Ethereum and Solana Surge as Bitcoin Loses Ground

Bitcoin (BTC) has been the top cryptocurrency, but Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) are now catching up.

These changes stem from the U.S.’s expected cryptocurrency ETFs. On June 28, Solana jumped after VanEck’s ETF filing.

Solana’s high-speed and low-cost transactions make it an interesting choice for developers and users in the blockchain space.

Ethereum has also outpaced Bitcoin this year with pending fund approvals. Early in 2024, Bitcoin made headlines with the first U.S. spot ETFs.

Major inflows into products by BlackRock and Fidelity drove Bitcoin to a March peak of $73,798. However, its demand has since declined.

Last month, the SEC greenlit spot ETFs for Ethereum. Final approvals could arrive next week.

Analysts predict modest demand for Ethereum ETFs, despite lower awareness than Bitcoin.

Since January, Ethereum has surged 51%, topping Bitcoin’s 45% gain. Over the past year, Solana soared 754% before Thursday.

Since January, U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have drawn $14.5 billion. JPMorgan strategists see future Ethereum portfolios attracting $1 billion to $3 billion.

The SEC, after initial resistance, approved Ethereum ETFs and remains skeptical of most other tokens, citing them as unregistered securities. This includes Solana, complicating its ETF prospects.

Bitcoin increased slightly to $61,471 on Friday morning. Ethereum was at $3,437, up 1.2%, and Solana reached $145, climbing 5.10%.

This trend away from Bitcoin reflects the evolving cryptocurrency scene. As ETFs emerge, investment interests and market dynamics shift.
