Camp Mulla Funky Town takes over Masshouse, an events venue in Nairobi, on Saturday 7 November 2026. Camp Mulla, the hip-hop group behind it, was the first Kenyan act nominated for a US Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award.
Tickets are on sale from KES 2,500 (US$19) on Mookh, a Kenyan ticketing platform. The organisers promise “one major surprise” but have not yet published a line-up.
What Funky Town Is and Why It Matters
Funky Town is a one-night party at Masshouse, presented by Camp Mulla with the entertainment company Sirocco Ent. It runs from 6pm on Saturday 7 November until 4am on Sunday 8 November.
The ticket page calls it “a celebration of Nairobi’s golden era” and of “the sounds that shaped a generation”. It also promises “one unforgettable night, one major surprise”.
Funky Town is also the title of the group’s 2012 album. Its single “Hold It Down” was a tribute to Nairobi, the city that made them, Capital FM reported in April 2012.
For a US visitor, the Camp Mulla Funky Town night is a homegrown Nairobi party rather than a touring stadium show. The same venue hosts the American rock musician Jack White on Friday 18 December.
Who Camp Mulla Are
Camp Mulla, a hip-hop and R&B group, came together in Nairobi around 2009, when its members were teenagers. Their 2012 line-up was Karun, Taio Tripper, Yung Kass (later Shappa Man) and the producer K’Cous.
Hits such as “Party Don’t Stop”, “Fresh All Day” and “Addicted” made them chart fixtures. Capital FM recalled in 2023 that they ruled the airwaves in the early 2010s.
In May 2012 the group became the first Kenyan act nominated for a BET Award, Capital FM reported at the time. The nomination came in the Best International Act: Africa category, alongside the Nigerian star Wizkid.
The line-up split at the height of its success, Capital FM wrote in 2023. In May 2013, The Standard reported that Karun was leaving for university in the United States, while Taio Tripper went solo.
A few years before 2023, an attempt at a reunion failed, the same Capital FM article noted. In October 2024, Karun brought out former bandmate Shappa Man at Nairobi’s Blankets & Wine festival for two Camp Mulla songs.
Karun has since joined the Recording Academy, the body behind the Grammy Awards, as a voting member. Capital FM reported the news in July 2025.
The Venue: Masshouse at Ngong Racecourse
Masshouse describes itself as a bar, restaurant and events venue. It sits inside Ngong Racecourse, on Ngong Road, west of Nairobi’s city centre.
The racecourse hosts horse racing, and its Kenyatta Cup race day falls on Sunday 11 October. The venue’s own calendar lists a run of concerts and themed nights into December.
Masshouse’s own page links to a map pin for the venue, which is the easiest thing to send a driver. Allow plenty of time for Saturday evening traffic, especially if you are coming from a hotel across town.
The organisers of Camp Mulla Funky Town warn that parking is limited. A ride-hailing app or a car arranged through your hotel is the simpler way to get there and back.

How Camp Mulla Funky Town Tickets Work
Camp Mulla Funky Town tickets are sold on Mookh at mookh.com/funkytown, the page the venue links to. Mookh is a Kenyan ticketing platform.
Early Bird tickets cost KES 2,500 (US$19) and VIP tickets KES 6,000 (US$46). Both conversions use 129.75 Kenyan shillings to the US dollar on Tuesday 6 October 2026.
The terms say tickets cannot be refunded once bought. Entry is strictly for those aged 18 and over, and management can refuse entry.
Outside food and drink are not allowed, and drugs, firearms and weapons are banned. The terms also warn of loud sound levels, so earplugs are worth packing.
Buy through the Mookh page linked by the venue, and treat resale offers on social media with caution.
Tips for US and Foreign Visitors
Americans do not need a traditional visa, but each traveller, children included, needs an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) first. Apply only on Kenya’s official portal, etakenya.go.ke, or its official mobile app.
A standard single-entry eTA costs US$30, and processing usually takes three days. The portal advises applying at least two weeks ahead, and an urgent service costs US$100 more.
Americans who visit often can choose a five-year multiple-entry eTA, which the portal prices at US$185. Your passport needs six months of validity and at least one blank page.
The US State Department rates Kenya at Level 2, “Exercise increased caution”, in an advisory issued on Tuesday 28 July 2026. It tells visitors not to travel to the Nairobi neighbourhoods of Eastleigh and Kibera because of crime and kidnapping.
The advisory says Uber and Bolt are common in Kenya’s major cities. It warns against hailing taxis on the street and asks visitors to use caution when walking or driving at night.
For a Camp Mulla Funky Town night that ends at 4am, book your ride home before you go in. Keep your phone and cards out of sight in the crowd and when you step outside.
Nairobi is eight hours ahead of New York on 7 November, after US clocks go back on 1 November. A 6pm start in Nairobi is 10am on the US East Coast.
If a short trip turns into a longer stay, the guide to moving to Kenya covers permits and costs for foreigners.
What Is Not Confirmed Yet
The organisers have not published a full line-up or said which Camp Mulla members will perform. The promised “major surprise” has not been revealed either.
Set times after the 6pm start are not public. The seller has also not said what tickets will cost once the early-bird batch is gone.
If you are planning around a particular performer, wait for the line-up before buying, because tickets are non-refundable.
The date, venue, current prices and official seller for Camp Mulla Funky Town are confirmed. That is enough to start planning a November trip.
