Camp in downtown Rio de Janeiro is dismantled after beginning of confusion

By · January 10, 2023 · 2 min read

The main camp of Bolsonaristas in Rio de Janeiro, of people who oppose the election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), in front of the Eastern Military Command, in the center of the Rio de Janeiro capital, was demobilized this Monday, 9.

The action took place in response to a court decision by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court.

The dismantling process started in the morning, a few hours after the decision was issued. During the process, there were political arguments, especially when a photographer from a newspaper tried to approach to closely follow the demobilization.

Bolsonaro’s supporters have been camped since the end of the electoral period, which gave Lula da Silva a democratic victory. Several demonstrations were held in the period, bringing together thousands of people in the locality.

The re-elected governor of Rio de Janeiro Claudio Castro (PL) determined that security be reinforced in public buildings in the state at least until this Tuesday, 10th, to avoid possible acts of vandalism. Castro was in Brasília last Monday with the governors of the other states of Brazil and the President of the Republic.
