In the first half of 2024, Brazil’s international tourism surged to 3.6 million arrivals, a significant increase.

This 9.7% increase over the previous year signals a continued recovery from pre-pandemic levels, outpacing 2019 by 1.9%.

Projections now suggest that Brazil may surpass its 2018 high of 6.6 million visitors by year-end.

Most tourists flew into Brazil, totaling over 2.2 million. Land routes brought in another 1.2 million, while sea and river pathways accounted for nearly 145,000.

This distribution underscores the country’s diverse entry options catering to global travelers.

The Ministry of Tourism, in conjunction with Embratur and other agencies, has been pivotal in this upturn.

In 2023 alone, they funneled R$380 million (approximately $69.7 million) into 510 development projects, enhancing tourist infrastructure.

The first half of 2024 continued this trend with R$146.3 million ($26.8 million) allocated to 225 initiatives.

A significant part of Brazil’s strategy involves increasing air connectivity. The introduction of new flight routes and boosting the frequency of existing ones have been central.

The new PATI program adds 70,000 flight seats to Brazil from October 2024 to March 2025. Embratur’s President, Marcelo Freixo, highlights the shift towards data-driven marketing strategies.

By tailoring promotional efforts to diverse tourist demographics, Brazil aims to maximize visitor engagement and economic benefits.

This targeted approach not only enhances visitor experiences but also bolsters local employment and income, fulfilling broader economic objectives.

As Brazil positions itself as a leading global destination, its strategic investments and innovative marketing are set to redefine its tourism landscape, promising substantial economic and social benefits.
