Brazil’s public debt rises to US$1.28 trillion, Treasury reports
In June, Brazil’s public debt saw an increase of 2.95%, reaching a total of R$6.19 (US$1.28) trillion, as disclosed by the National Treasury on Friday (21.Jul.2023).
In May, the debt was reported to be at R$6.01 trillion. The full presentation can be accessed here (504 KB).
The recent growth in debt was influenced by net issuances amounting to R$144.2 billion, alongside interest expenses totaling R$33.32 billion, as per the government’s data.
It was also noted that there was a rise in the proportion of fixed-rate securities over the last month, from 26.17% to 27.04%.

On the contrary, the shares of price index-linked securities decreased from 29.76% to 29.46%, along with a slight reduction in floating-rate securities, from 39.74% to 39.52%.
The liquidity reserve for public debt witnessed a 13.76% increase, from R$983.18 billion in May to R$1,118.47 billion in June.
The current reserve is projected to cover the upcoming 8.52 months of maturities, an increase from the 8.06 months covered in the previous month.
