RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Minister of Infrastructures, Marcelo Sampaio Cunha Filho, has held “very productive” meetings this week with Aena to offer them investment opportunities in the Latin American country, especially in the seventh tender for Brazilian airports that will take place next August.

It was stated during the America Forum organized by Europa Press, in which the minister informed about his schedule in Spain to discuss the Brazilian investment potential.

Next August, the Brazilian government will tender 15 airports in the country, including Congonhas, the third busiest in Brazil.

Sampaio underlined this concession opportunity for Aena, which already operates eight airports in the northeast region of Brazil “with a clear vocation for tourism”.

Apart from this concession, the minister also indicated that he has met with representatives of Acciona to promote its presence in the road sector.

The minister has assured that Spanish companies are “very well-positioned” for the awarding of tenders in Brazil. Aena and Acciona are successful examples.

“The meetings we have held these days have been very productive; on Monday morning, we met with Aena, and we have also had an excellent meeting with Acciona, which is already present in the railway sector, but we have also allowed them to apply for road options,” explained the Brazilian Infrastructure Minister during the meeting.

The concession will run for 35 years and generate some R$7.3 billion (US$1.4 billion), mainly for the modernization and expansion of the terminals.

The airports that make up the August lot will be auctioned in three blocks. The first includes the airports of Congonhas, Campo Grande, Corumbá, Ponta Pora, Santarém, Marabá, Carajás, Altamira, Uberlandia, Uberaba, and Montes Claros.

The second includes the airports of Campos de Marte in São Paulo and Jacarepaguá in Rio de Janeiro. The third block includes the airports of Pará’s state capital, Belém, and Amapá’s state capital, Macapá.

Santos Dumont airport in Rio was initially included in the seventh round but was finally excluded. Thus, the August concession will bring to 49 the number of terminals transferred to the private sector since 2010.
