Brazil’s Embraer Completes Tests on 100% Green Fuel

Embraer, the Brazilian aerospace giant, recently announced the successful completion of tests using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

These tests in Melbourne, Florida, involved two aircraft models: the Phenom 300E and the Praetor 600.

The company focused on engine performance when using this new fuel type in the tests. The results offered valuable insights.

Specifically, they revealed how these aircraft engines function using only SAF.

Importantly, this work aligns with Embraer’s ambitious goal: to reach zero net carbon emissions by 2040.

Michael Amalfitano, the CEO of Embraer’s Executive Aviation division, expressed satisfaction with the successful flights.

He emphasized the increasing interest in SAF from airlines and operators. This enthusiasm is not surprising, given the fuel’s potential benefits.

According to the company, using SAF can reduce an airplane’s greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 80%.

Currently, Embraer’s aircraft fleet uses a mix of 50% SAF and 50% traditional aviation fuel.

However, they aim to increase the SAF percentage. The company’s commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at fuel.

Embraer continually explores various avenues to minimize its environmental impact. Beyond the focus on SAF, Embraer is also advancing in the field of electric aviation.

They recently unveiled a prototype electric aircraft at an international mobility conference in São Paulo, Brazil.

This prototype serves as a testbed for new sustainable aviation technologies.

Since its first flight in 2021, this electric aircraft has been a key part of Embraer’s research efforts.

These tests focus on the integration of sustainable propulsion systems.

By combining these initiatives, Embraer seeks to establish itself as a frontrunner in eco-friendly aviation technologies.
