RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian Navy announced the start of Exercise Poseidon 2022. In these activities, 900 troops are expected to be deployed, with the participation of personnel and means of the Brazilian Army (EB) and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), which will operate with the Navy’s main projection means.

The exercises scheduled during the five days are: “free jump, performed by special operations soldiers; aeromedical evacuation (EVAM); and collection – activity by which the EVAM is developed”. It is foreseen that the maritime operations area will be comprised in a location between the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Cabo Frio.

“It is of utmost importance to improve the integration between the Forces because in this way we will be ready to act together and, in this way, we will further expand our military capabilities to defend the air, land, river, and maritime domains of the national territory, including the Blue Amazon”, expressed the Commander of the operation, Rear Admiral André Luiz de Andrade Felix.

The Joint Exercise Poseidon 2022 is scheduled to end on April 9 with a naval parade along the coast of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the information disclosed by the Brazilian Navy, the two main surface means with which to project power will be deployed: the NAM “Atlântico” (LHD type unit) and the G-40 “Bahia” (LPD type unit). In addition, the Niterói Independence class frigate (F-44) will participate in the exercises.

As previously mentioned, the rotary-wing means of the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force will also join the Poseidon Exercise in a clear demonstration of interoperability and joint action by the Brazilian Armed Forces. It will be the first opportunity for means of these forces to operate embarked on board the G-40 “Bahia”. In previous exercises, these units operated aboard the NAM “Atlântico” to familiarize themselves with naval processes and certify pilots and aircraft in operation with this type of vessel.

The Joint Exercise Poseidon 2022 is scheduled to end on April 9 with a naval parade along the coast of Rio de Janeiro. It will involve the aforementioned Brazilian Navy units and aircraft from its Naval Aviation Command, the Brazilian Army, and the Brazilian Air Force. There are different types of helicopters among these aircraft: the AH-11B (Super Lynx) and UH-15 (H225 Super Cougar) of the Navy; HM-4 Jaguar of the Army, and H-36 Caracal of the Air Force.
