Brazilian Navy takes delivery of its last H135 helicopter for Antarctic missions

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In mid-December 2021, the Brazilian Navy took delivery of its last Airbus H135 light helicopter. With this delivery, Airbus Helicopters (through its Brazilian subsidiary Helibras) completes the contract signed with the Brazilian Navy in 2019 to deliver three units.

The H135s, designated UH-17s by the Brazilian Navy, will complement and replace the UH-13 (Airbus H125) helicopters operated by the 1st Multi-Purpose Helicopter Squadron.

Their primary mission is to support the Brazilian Antarctic Program (PROANTAR) through transport, search and rescue missions, and aeromedical evacuation on the white continent.

Since November 2020, the H135s of the Brazilian Navy has been in service aboard the polar ship “Almirante Maximiano”.

It is recalled that the first two units entered service in March (registration N-7090) and July (N-7091) 2020. Features include a spacious and easily accessible cabin, a higher maximum take-off weight, a larger hook load capacity, and new and more reliable avionics equipment compatible with night vision devices (NVD).
