Argentina suffers primary fiscal deficit of US$159 million in January

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Argentina recorded a primary fiscal deficit of 16,698 million pesos, equivalent to US$159 million in the first month of 2022, the Ministry of Economy said Monday.

It added that January's financial result, which includes public debt payments, was negative 150,664 million pesos.

Argentina seeks to close against the clock a restructuring of more than US$40 billion with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), amid conditions that include reducing public spending.

The South American country recorded a primary fiscal deficit of 1.4 trillion pesos in 2021, equivalent to 3% of GDP . . .
