In the election of Miss Brazil Gay 2019, Miss São Paulo, Radha Vasconcellos, came in second place and Miss Mato Grosso, Jennifer Lizz, came in third.

The crown for the new Miss Brazil Gay, Antonia Gutierrez, was passed on by Yakira Queiroz, the winner of the contest’s 38th edition, who remarked on the importance of her year of reign and the various achievements provided by winning the contest.

The event was streamed live for the first time over the internet on the contest’s official Youtube channel. In this edition, Miss Brazil Gay also included translated subtitles and audio description for the visually and hearing impaired.

According to the event’s coordinator, Michel Bruce, Miss Brazil Gay’s goal is to fight for the rights of homosexuals in Brazil and position the city of Juiz de Fora on the LGBTQI+ national and international tourism route.

History of the contest

Miss Brazil Gay was founded in 1976, in Juiz de Fora, by hairdresser Francisco Mota. Candidates from 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District compete for the most beautiful transgender in the country. In 2007, the event became the municipality’s non-material heritage.

The main rule is that the competitors are female, not transvestites or transsexuals.

The event takes place amidst the activities of the Rainbow Fest, organized by the Movimento Gay de Minas (Gay Minas Movement), which mobilizes several sectors in the city with lectures, debates, and cultural events during the week.
