In 2020, labor income in Brazil registered biggest drop in 8 years

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - The share of labor income in Brazil's total income in 2020 recorded the most significant drop in eight years and registered the lowest level of the historical series, as almost a quarter of the country's households received a social benefit in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Data released on Friday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) also show that for the first time in one region of Brazil, the Northeast, labor income lost out to other income, including social aid.
