Covid-19: Austria decides to lock down entire population and require vaccination

By · November 19, 2021 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Austria is the first country in Europe to resume lockdown and impose vaccination on the population. The restriction goes into effect on Monday (22).

Faced with a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, Austria imposed a lockdown on the entire population on Friday (19). Austria is the first country on the European continent to return to a national lockdown.

The restriction was announced after the Austrian government first imposed a curfew only on unvaccinated people as a world first. In the meantime, however, it has been realized in Vienna that such a measure is not justified.

The lockdown will be in effect for ten days as a first step and can then be extended for another ten days

Starting Monday, Austrians will only be able to leave their homes to work, buy food and medicine, and play sports. Schools will not be closed, but parents will have to keep their children at home if they can.

The lockdown will be in effect for ten days as a first step and can then be extended for another ten days. In addition, vaccination will be mandatory starting February 1 next year. This makes Austria the first European country to introduce such a measure.
