Brazil: agribusiness leader criticizes Lula’s aggressiveness with the sector

President Lula has acted aggressively with the sector for the leader of the Parliamentary Front of the Agribusiness in the House of Representatives, Pedro Lupion (PP-PR).

In an interview with the O Globo newspaper, published this Monday 22, the congressman criticizes the President’s attitude.

Lupion believes Lula’s offensive comments against the agro hinder the relationship with the sector and the efforts to build bridges made by other government members.

“Unfortunately, we have back a political Lula of old, who has been aggressive with the sector,” said the congressman.

“Lula has already called the ruralists fascists and bad characters. This distances us; it is difficult to have a good relationship.”

The congressman expressed concern about the possibility of Lula creating an obstacle with the ruralist bench, because of the Landless Workers Movement Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (MST CPI) actions.

He said this would prove that the government supports illegal land invasions.

Lupion emphasized that the objective of the CPI is to investigate the financing of land invasions and the support received by the MST.

He suspected the movement directly influences the Executive, including the nomination of positions.

About the appointment of the former Minister of the Environment and current federal congressman Ricardo Salles (PL-SP) as rapporteur of the CPI, Lupion defended the congressman.

“Salles is competent for the task of the bench leader and has the right to assume the position.”

“The members of a CPI are deputies interested in the topic,” observed Lupion.

“Any name chosen would face this questioning. Salles has the technical capacity.”
