Brazil: Farms invading Landless Workers Movement gets a support page on the federal government website

A group that has the “formation of citizens and organizations” as its line of action.

This is how the Landless Rural Labor Movement (MST) is presented on a page on the federal government’s official portal.

Since the beginning of April, in a section linked to the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU), the content does not mention the land invasions promoted by this social movement.

There is no mention, for example, that the MST has invaded more than 30 rural properties since the beginning of the government led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The material on the MST maintained by the CGU on the internet has a flattering tone to the movement.

The government agency claims that the group is dedicated to “fostering citizen participation, the defense of rights, and the mobilization of society.”

Health, education, environment, natural resources, social policies, citizenship, human rights, labor, and employment are other words used by the CGU team in the presentation of the group, which will be the target of the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission to be installed in the House of Representatives to investigate who finances this type of movement.

INCONSISTENT INFORMATION ON THE MST HEADQUARTERS

In addition to the praise for the land invasion group, the CGU page brings disjointed information.

Despite stating that the movement’s headquarters is in the city of São Paulo, the federal government agency publishes the National Registry of Legal Entities (CNPJ) number 04.531.181/0001-33.

This number, however, is linked to the Association of Settlers of the MST, an entity headquartered in the rural area of Santa Vitória in Minas Gerais.
