Brazil debuts at 2020 Tokyo Olympics surfing with wins in heats

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Two Brazilians reached the round of 16 in men’s surfing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Saturday, 24. Ítalo Ferreira won the sport’s first heat at an Olympics with 13.67 points in the competition held at Tsurugasaki Beach. Gabriel Medina competed in the last heat of the day and also won first place, with 12.23 points overall.

For surfing, it is the first year at the Olympics, just like for skateboarding. In men’s skateboarding, the Brazilian representatives are Kelvin Hoefler, Felipe Gustavo, and Giovanni Vianna.

Felipe Gustavo inaugurated street skateboarding as an Olympic discipline by riding the first round of the competition at the Olympics at the Ariake Urban Sports Park. However, the athlete finished the first round in fourth place, without the possibility of reaching the final.

On Sunday, at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), it will be the turn of Pâmela Rosa, Rayssa Leal and Letícia Bufoni to represent Brazil.

Also on Saturday, at 11 p.m., Daniel Cargnin and Larissa Pimenta will defend Brazil in judo. Cargnin will face Mohamed ABdelmawgroud in the up to 66kg category and Pimenta will fight Agata Perenc in the up to 52kg category.
