Brazil celebrates opportunity to sell beef to Mexico

The Brazilian government celebrated yesterday, Tuesday, the opportunity to sell beef to Mexico starting this week, after that country opened its market to the Brazilian product with the authorization of 34 meat processing plants.

The Brazilian Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Fávaro, said in a press release that the opening of the meat processing plants “is a dream that Brazil has had for more than a decade”.

“This is a historic moment for Brazilian trade relations, especially for beef. Brazil shows the power and greatness of its livestock, and the expansion of markets is becoming a great opportunity for the resumption of the growth of this economic activity,” he highlighted.

The Agriculture and Livestock portfolio pointed out that “with the publication of the animal health requirements for the importation of Brazilian beef on Monday night by the Mexican Government, the negotiation initiated more than 12 years ago for the commercialization of the product between the countries was concluded”.

He explained that it would be possible to export beef from the southern state of Santa Catarina, recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) as a zone free of foot-and-mouth disease, and also matured and boneless beef from 14 other Brazilian states.

Last week, the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, held a telephone conversation to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries.
