During the week, images went around the country denouncing the arbitrary acts and conditions of more than 1,500 people trapped in a sports gym in Brasília who participated in the demonstrations in the federal capital.
In an article published in issue 147 of Revista Oeste, J.R. Guzzo wrote that “this has never happened in any past Brazilian dictatorship, and with scenes that recall the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile in General Pinochet’s coup”.
Since the demonstrations in the federal capital on January 8, which ended with the invasion and depredation of public buildings, the Lula da Silva government decreed federal intervention in security in Brasília.
Ibaneis Rocha, elected governor of the Federal District, was removed by order of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court.
“There already exists, even before the new Congress comes into operation, a CPI ready to make criminal accusations against opponents of the government,” says Guzzo.
In his article, Guzzo observes that “Lula’s election, it seems, was not enough; it is now seen that it was a step, among others, towards the formation of a Brazil without real opposition. A project is currently being implemented that intends to keep the country under the control of a coalition between the STF and the Executive, through the Ministry of Justice and the rest of the State repression apparatus.”
