Bolivian doctors call for a road blockade against the Health Emergency Law

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The dissatisfied doctors have determined to radicalize the pressure measures and continue demanding the abrogation of the law.

The decision was taken by the National Health Council (Conasa), according to a press conference held by the Executive Secretary of the La Paz Medical Union (Sirmes), Fernando Romero.

The doctors question the Health Emergency Law as they consider that, among other aspects, it prohibits the right to protest and opens the possibility of hiring foreign professionals.

The government has stated that it will not repeal the law and invited the country’s physicians to participate in its regulation. However, the health professionals rejected the proposal because they consider that the law is unconstitutional and there is nothing to regulate, ratified Romero.

For their part, legislators of the opposition Comunidad Ciudadana (Citizen Community) reported that on March 26th they filed an action of unconstitutionality against the Health Emergency Law, considering that some articles violate the country’s Constitution.
