Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru to strengthen Bioceanic Rail Corridor

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Bioceanic Railway Corridor Task Force, formed by Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru, will hold a meeting on June 27 in La Paz, Bolivia, to strengthen the body.

Topics such as the preliminary conditions for the development of projects, financing strategies, the common legal framework, norms and procedures, and the elaboration of the operational and technical specifications for the development of the Strategic Integration Railway Corridor will be discussed.

“The meeting of the Bioceanic Corridor Operational Group has been confirmed by the ministers of Peru, those in charge of Brazil, and the vice minister of Paraguay; therefore, this meeting of the Bioceanic Operational Group will be held in the city of La Paz,” commented Édgar Montaño, Bolivian Minister of Public Works, Services and Housing.

João Carlos Parkinson, secretary of regional bilateral negotiations, and Elder Gonzales, head of special advisory services for institutional affairs at the Ministry of Infrastructure, will attend from Brazil.

Peru will be represented by Juan Mauricio Barranzuela Quiroga, Minister of Transport, and Víctor Hugo Alejo Sigas, Vice Minister of Transport. Representing Paraguay will be Rodolfo Segovia, vice minister of Public Works and Communications, and Alfredo Sánchez, head of the project executing unit of the Ministry of Public Works.

According to Montaño, at the meeting, “the objective is to consolidate the Bioceanic Railway Corridor (…) We are the heart of South America, and therefore it is more direct and efficient to exit through national territory; why? Because obviously, we are going to join the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean, but with several edges, with several exits”.

From the Plurinational State of Bolivia, the Minister of Public Works, Services and Housing, the Vice Minister of Transportation, Israel Ticona, and the director of the Technical Unit of Railways (UTF), Augusto Chassagnez, will attend.
