Bolivia and Argentina define a plan for the gas crisis

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As part of the emergency negotiations between Argentina and its neighbors, Brazil and Bolivia, due to the worldwide energy crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, Bolivian President Luis Arce will arrive in Buenos Aires on Thursday to meet his Argentine counterpart Alberto Fernández and reach a common agreement: they will discuss the possibility of reaching an understanding that will prevent the country from suffering severe gas shortages during the winter.

According to El Cronista, qualified sources in the Casa Rosada, President Alberto Fernández will receive Arce to advance in negotiations held by the Energy Secretaries of Brazil, Bolivia, and Argentina. Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero acknowledged these negotiations are at a standstill.

“The presidents of Argentina and Bolivia decided to lead the negotiations for the provision of gas for the winter because it has been blocked for months, and it represents a strategic and essential resource for our country”, said Chancellor Cafiero to the agency Télam last night, confirming the information reported by El Cronista.

With Arce’s visit, the Argentine government is negotiating with Brazil and Bolivia a greater gas supply to avoid power cuts in winter. “It is the energy triangle to face the world,” said an Argentine official about this eventual understanding between the three countries. The war in Ukraine and the economic sanctions applied to Russia have increased the price of oil and made gas supplies more expensive worldwide.
