Bitcoin Holds Near $122,000—And Why The Rally Stalled For Now

Bitcoin is catching its breath. After sprinting to fresh highs near $126,000 earlier this week, the world’s largest cryptocurrency hovered around $122,000 this morning. It slipped toward $121,000 overnight, then steadied—classic “pause after a run.”

The story in front of us is simple: buyers are still there, just a bit less aggressive. Spot bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. pulled in billions early this week, but the daily pace cooled into midweek.

That was enough to nudge momentum traders to take profits. A firmer dollar added drag even as gold notched new records, a reminder that the broader “debasement” trade—hedging against money losing value—still underpins demand for both assets.

The story behind the story is the structure of this rally. New ETF money creates a steady bid, while derivatives traders fade extremes.

On the daily chart, bitcoin sits comfortably above a pack of key moving averages around $118,500–$120,000, with long-term trend support far below near $106,000.

That says uptrend intact. On the four-hour chart, momentum cooled: RSI is mid-50s and MACD has flattened, signaling digestion rather than reversal.

Translation: bulls are resting, not retreating. First support is $121,000–$120,000, then $118,500–$119,000. Resistance is stacked at $125,000–$126,000; a firm break would likely invite a push toward $128,000–$130,000.

Majors moved unevenly. Ether held near $4,440 after an Asia dip. Solana stayed resilient around $227; reclaiming $232 could reopen the mid-$240s. XRP eased to roughly $2.83 after failing to hold above $2.92. Litecoin hovered near $119, still wrestling with $120.

Speculative pockets showed sharp dispersion. On a broad watchlist, COAI jumped 69%, BANK 39%, CHEEMS 31%, and LISTA 29%, while AIA fell 19%, XPL 8.5%, and FORM 7.3%. Liquidity clustered in BGB and 2Z.

Bottom line: ETF demand remains the engine; a stronger dollar and profit-taking tapped the brakes. Unless $118,500–$120,000 breaks decisively, this looks like consolidation before the next attempt higher.
