The Big Three
Bitcoin price today holds $80,913 after Sunday’s whipsaw on Trump’s “TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE” rejection of Iran’s counterproposal — BTC slid from $81,430 to $80,520 in 45 minutes, then ripped 2.3% back to $82,347 in under three hours, liquidating $64 million of short positions. The Bitstamp daily prints O $82,197 / H $82,361 / L $80,509 / C $80,913 (−1.56%), with the perp at $80,760 essentially flat (+0.05%, $3.10B vol). Iran’s offer demanded a 60-day ceasefire, sanctions relief, war reparations, and continued de facto control of the Strait of Hormuz — the U.S. red line. Diplomacy is not dead (Trump flies to Beijing for Iran-themed talks with Xi this week), but the easy “peace trade” is.
April CPI Tuesday is the cleanest macro test BTC has had since the war began on February 28. Brent (BZ perp) +4.07% to $102.73 and WTI (CL perp) +4.27% to $97.26 — energy-driven inflation is finally bleeding into hard data, with China’s April PPI hitting a 45-month high overnight on the same dynamic. Consensus: +0.4% MoM headline, 3.1% YoY, 3.4% core. Pimco’s CIO has flagged the tail risk that a sustained oil shock forces the Fed back into hikes — an outcome BTC is nowhere near priced for. A cool print clears $85K; a hot print sends BTC to the 50-DMA at $78,884.
Senate Banking Committee marks up the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act on Thursday, May 14 — the first real legislative motion since January. The breakthrough was the Tillis–Alsobrooks stablecoin yield compromise: crypto firms can offer rewards when users spend or use stablecoins, but not for simply holding them. Polymarket odds of 2026 passage have rebounded to ~55% from an April low of 47%. Lummis warned May 4 that missing this window means waiting until 2030. The committee vote unlocks five further sequential hurdles, but a “yes” on Thursday is the institutional confidence signal BTC has waited on all year.
03 Key Movers
Winners
SUI +19.67% is the standout — and the driver is fundamental, not war-driven. Nasdaq-listed SUI Group Holdings staked 108.7 million tokens long-term last week, removing 2.7% of circulating supply, and at Sui Live Miami the team confirmed zero-fee stablecoin transfers and a privacy upgrade. ONDO +9.47% and AAVE +3.81% are the CLARITY Act rotation: tokenized real-world assets and U.S.-regulated DeFi both stand to benefit from Thursday’s markup. XRP +2.32% is the same trade — the bill’s SEC/CFTC jurisdictional split historically favors XRP’s legal posture.
Losers
TON −8.52% is profit-taking on the Telegram strategy story after a strong week. ZEC −7.26% unwinds part of a 65% rally as quantum-resistant narrative cools. LAB −6.67% and LAYER −5.52% are heat coming out of last week’s altcoin froth — nothing structural.

§04 · Market Commentary
The two-way Sunday whipsaw is the tell. Algorithmic desks priced in war on the rejection, then unwound when it became clear the diplomatic channel through Beijing is still open. Iran’s offer asked for everything (60-day ceasefire, sanctions relief, reparations, continued de facto Hormuz control); Trump’s red line — Hormuz reopening — is non-negotiable. The market read this as “negotiation continues” rather than “war escalates,” and bought the dip.
The deeper signal is the rotation. With BTC and ETH essentially flat, capital is moving into two distinct narratives: war commodities (CL, BZ both +4%) and CLARITY-Act beneficiaries (SUI, ONDO, AAVE, XRP). When traders feel comfortable chasing a 50% weekly mover in a Layer-1 token, the tape is not in defensive mode. The institutional bid remains intact — Morgan Stanley’s MSBT closed its first trading month at +$194 million with zero net outflow days, and U.S. government crypto holdings are up $4 billion since April 1.
The asymmetry into Tuesday is what matters. A cool CPI print would prove that even a sustained oil shock cannot reignite U.S. inflation — the cleanest bull case for BTC since the war began. A hot print revives the Pimco scenario where the Fed has to hike, and BTC reprices fast.
05 Technical Analysis
BTC is in a textbook standoff with the descending trendline that has capped every rally since February. That trendline now sits at $82,580, reinforced by the Ichimoku cloud top at $82,439. Sunday’s high of $82,361 stopped two dollars short of breakout territory — the third consecutive daily rejection.
Bullish: Price comfortably above the cloud. 20-DMA ($80,528) and 50-DMA ($78,884) stacked correctly. MACD positive at +1,905 / +1,857, histogram still printing green. RSI 61.71, cooled from 62.16 peak without rolling over.
Bearish: Three consecutive trendline rejections. RSI made a lower high while Kijun caught up underneath. 50-DMA and cloud base ($75,329) are the downside magnets on a hot CPI.
06 Forward Look
Verdict
Bitcoin price today is a coiled spring under the $82,580 trendline, with three catalysts compressed into 96 hours: Trump–Xi in Beijing, U.S. CPI Tuesday, CLARITY markup Thursday. The rotation tape (SUI, ONDO, AAVE) tells you the market is not defensive. The repeated trendline rejection tells you the buyers have not yet committed to a real breakout.
