Ânima Education Reverses Losses with R$8.9 Million Q4 Profit Under New Leadership

Brazilian education group Ânima Holding S.A. (BOVESPA: ANIM3) reported a significant financial turnaround in its fourth quarter results released Thursday, March 20.

The company achieved an adjusted net profit of R$8.9 million in Q4 2024, successfully reversing the R$45.4 million loss recorded in Q4 2023. The company posted an adjusted net profit of R$187 million ($32.8 million) for full-year 2024, compared to a R$46.4 million loss in 2023.

Adjusted EBITDA reached R$293.7 million ($51.5 million) in Q4 2024, representing a 9.3% increase from Q4 2023. For the full year 2024, adjusted EBITDA grew by 12.7% to R$1.3 billion ($228.1 million).

The adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 3.1 percentage points to reach 32.8%, demonstrating improved operational efficiency. “The numbers tell the story of a new chapter for the company,” said Paula Maria Harraca, who joined as president in June 2024.

Finance VP Átila Simões da Cunha added, “We did our homework. We improved indicators, and this translates into the 2024 numbers.” Ânima reduced its leverage ratio from 3.25x at the end of 2023 to 2.80x by the end of 2024. This improvement coincides with a strategic shift in student recruitment strategy.

Ânima Shifts Strategy Toward Quality Education

The company moved away from discount-driven enrollment tactics toward emphasizing educational quality. “Education should be an investment, not an expense,” Harraca noted, explaining the decision to maintain course values.

Ânima views increasing regulation of Distance Learning courses favorably despite having a stronger presence in in-person education. Management remains prepared to adapt offerings as necessary.

The market capitalization of Ânima stands at R$698.75 million, with trailing twelve-month revenue of R$3.81 billion ($668.4 million). The company maintains a healthy gross margin of 62.37%, though the net profit margin remains at -1.34%.

These Q4 results mark a turning point for Ânima, showcasing effective strategic initiatives under new leadership. The next earnings release will occur on March 20, 2025, allowing investors to assess continued progress in the Brazilian education sector.
