Uruguay’s main agribusiness fair returns

With “a lot of innovation” and renewed airs, Uruguay lives from this Friday, September 9, a new edition of Expo Prado.

It is an agro-industrial and livestock fair where the technological innovations of the industry and the country’s best export animals are exhibited every year.

Until September 18, the country’s tradition will meet the latest technological advances in the agricultural and livestock industry in the 117th edition of the festival that brings together every year on the grounds of the Rural del Prado in Montevideo, thousands of visitors.

It was highlighted by the president of the Rural Association of Uruguay (ARU), Gonzalo Valdés, who pointed out that this will be an “exceptional” year for the event since, after two editions marked by strict restrictions due to covid-19, there will be no restrictions for visitors.

“We do not have any special requirements, so the desire to be there and we will surely return to the Meadows where there are many people and many activities,” said Valdés, who added that the fair continues to grow in its offer.

“The expectation is great since the number of animals has grown and the number of commercial exhibitors has also increased.

“There is a lot of machinery, a lot of innovation, a lot of technology, and we believe that if the weather accompanies us, it will be an ideal moment for families to walk around and get to know everything,” he remarked.

For his part, the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries, Fernando Mattos, told the press that at the fair, his portfolio would present the National Agricultural Development Strategy, a document that “sets the path for public policies in this area for the next 20 years”.

Expo Prado 2022 will feature an exhibition of animals that will include fifteen breeds of cattle, sheep, and horses, as well as, to a lesser extent, varieties of goats, pigs, poultry, and rabbits.

In addition, the fair, which in 2021 received some 195,000 visitors, will have business premises and pavilions from various countries.

In addition to tasting typical dishes, visitors can enjoy shows and participate in talks and conferences, among other activities.
